Dark Sky Event a Great Success!

The Discover Llangorse and Bwlch Group organised a successful Astronomy Evening on January 3rd 2014 in Llangors Youth & Community Centre – the Event was a sell out!

Dark Sky Wales brought a large Planetarium demonstrated by Allan Trow, and Martin Griffiths from University of South Wales gave a fascinating talk. There was also an exhibition with items for all ages from Rockets and Space Modules to details of the Solar System, Galaxies plus Photographs of the stars and night sky. Refreshments including two types of soup were available and were greatly appreciated. Although skies were not clear for viewing there was plenty to occupy those present and it was great to see youngsters taking an interest in Astronomy.

New leaflet celebrates what is special about Llangorse and Bwlch

Villagers and businesses in Llangorse and Bwlch have joined forces to create a new information leaflet to promote what’s great about these two villages in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The newly produced Discover Llangorse and Bwlch guide is packed full of information about activities, attractions, places to eat and drink, circular walks, star gazing, wildlife, and accommodation in the area.

The brochure, funded through Brecon Beacons National Park Authority’s Rural Alliances initiative, has been created by the newly-established Llangorse and Bwlch Rural Alliances group and will be made available to local businesses and residents during an open meeting at Llangorse Multi Activity Centre at 18:30 on Thursday, May 9.

The meeting will give the local community the chance to join the Llangorse and Bwlch Rural Alliances group, and contribute to driving forward sustainable tourism in the area, as well as bringing the local community together. Although the group have only been together for a short period of time, they have already worked collaboratively to develop a new website www.aroundllangorselake.co.uk to promote the area.
